Fall Newsletter 2011
11-1-2011

I am back in Naples and teaching again in the Singing Wind Studio.  It is hard to believe that it is November.  Somehow even though I enjoyed September and October in Lubec, I would like to have them over again in Naples.

It was a very busy season in Lubec this year with our restaurant and gift shop opening.  We also upgraded our whale boat to a 26 passenger boat which did whale watches and sunset dinner cruises.  The additional guest rooms filled right up like they were always there.  Guests loved the balconies although some guest still requested the larger rooms with screened sitting area since all are directly on the ocean.  We had four yoga teachers working in the Yoga Room and numerous guests attended daily classes.

Here in Naples, it is beautiful on the Land of Singing Wind.  Everything is very green after the huge rain a week ago.  The wetland on our property flooded and everything came to life around our boardwalk.  The rest of the property remained high and dry and blooming with life.  My butterfly garden has no less than seven different varieties of butterflies and several hummingbirds in it at all times.  The passion plants that I added last year seem to attract them as well as numerous other butterfly plants.  If you come to a class, you can set after class on our little bench as just watch this magical world.

Saturday we are going to fill the planters around the pool outside the studio this weekend to add to the beauty when watching the waterfalls and pool during classes.

I taught the first Friday class this morning and will be teaching it throughout the season.  The Monday morning class will begin on January 9th from 9-10:15.  We will have our annual Walking Meditation and Burning Bowl Celebration with a special yoga class on January 21st this year.

Some of you will miss seeing our wonderful cat, Patches, after classes.  She passed peacefully last August.  We miss her very much.

This season, I plan to continue working with my private clients and continue my studies in watercolor and acrylic painting.  I also plan to travel to see sons, grandchildren and attend a seminar on restaurants and I am hoping to go on a yoga/meditation retreat.  Victor and I sold our present home in Lubec this Fall and will be designing and planning our summer house on The Cliff as well as planning the building of four small apartments on another of our oceanfront lots next summer.

Until our next newsletter, I I wish you a very happy thanksgiving and know that I am very thankful for all of you in my life.

Christmas is just around the corner and I wish a very blessed end of this incredible 2011.

Check the web in January for our winter news.

Yoga in your Life

Yoga is a complete science of life that originated in India many thousands of years ago. It is the oldest system of personal development in the world, encompassing body, mind and spirit. The ancient yogis had a profound understanding of man’s essential nature and of what he needs to live in harmony with himself and his environment.

Yoga is a lifelong journey of self-discovery in which we access greater levels of health and balance in our lives. As we deepen our understanding of Yoga, we deepen our knowledge of how to use the various elements of yoga to facilitate a friendship between the mind, body and spirit. In learning to hold a yoga posture through the full range of our emotions, and move through those emotions, staying in our quiet center, then yoga becomes a model for developing endurance to “stay” in the experiences of life with peace, love and focus.

Anyone can practice yoga. A mat, comfortable clothing, a small amount of private space and a strong desire are all that is needed. The yoga postures or asanas exercise every part of the body, stretching and toning the muscles and joints, the spine and the entire skeletal system. They also work on the body’s internal organs, glands and nerves as well, keeping all systems in whole health. By releasing physical and mental tension, they liberate vast resources of energy. Yogic breathing exercises known as pranayama revitalize the body and help to control the mind, encouraging calmness. The practice of meditation gives increased clarity, mental power and concentration.
